How to Obtain a Marriage License in Brevard County, Florida

Planning your wedding is an exciting journey, and one of the essential steps is obtaining your marriage license. If you’re tying the knot in Brevard County, Florida, here’s a detailed guide to help you navigate the process smoothly.

1. Where to Apply
You can apply for a marriage license at the Brevard County Clerk of Courts. They have multiple locations, including Melbourne, Palm Bay, and Viera. It’s best to check their official website for the most convenient location and hours of operation.

2. Requirements
Identification: Both parties must present a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or passport.

Social Security Number: You’ll need to provide your Social Security numbers, but the cards themselves are not required.

Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Minors may need additional documentation and parental consent.

3. Waiting Period
Florida residents have a three-day waiting period unless they complete a state-approved premarital course. Non-residents are exempt from this waiting period.

4. Fees
The marriage license fee is approximately $93.50. Couples who complete a premarital course can receive a discount, reducing the fee to around $61.

5. Validity
Once issued, the marriage license is valid for 60 days. Be sure to plan your ceremony within this timeframe.

6. Additional Tips
Premarital Course: Completing a premarital course not only waives the waiting period for Florida residents but also provides valuable insights for your marriage. And saves you $30.

Certified Copies: After your ceremony, you may need certified copies of your marriage license for legal purposes. These can be requested from the Clerk of Courts.

As your Brevard/Space Coast wedding officiant, I’m here to guide you through every step of the process, including ensuring your marriage license is in order. Let’s make your special day as seamless and memorable as possible!
